Peel Health Campus Redevelopment – a new hospital for Peel

Major upgrades to meet the growing needs of the Peel community

Peel Health Campus Redevelopment – a new hospital for Peel

In August 2024, Peel Health Campus (PHC) officially became part of the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS). This transition paved the way for the hospital’s redevelopment to expand services, modernise facilities and improve healthcare access for the region.

PHC is entering a new chapter, with plans for a -new, purpose-built public hospital on the existing site. This development will deliver expanded services, modern facilities, and improved access to care for the Peel-Murray community – closer to home.

The new hospital will include:

  • an expanded Emergency Department
  • a dedicated Mental Health Emergency Centre
  • more inpatient and specialist palliative care beds
  • expanded chemotherapy and outpatient services
  • modern operating theatres and clinical support spaces.

Construction of the main works is expected to begin in June 2026, subject to approvals.

What this means for our staff and community

PHC staff will retain their jobs and transition to the new hospital when it opens. Our people know this hospital and our patients best – and their knowledge, experience and ideas will help shape the future of care in Peel.

The hospital will remain open and operational throughout construction, with forward works already underway to prepare the site. These include:

  • new access roads and car parks
  • new Western Power intake substations
  • upgrades to site services and power supply.

Planning with purpose

This new hospital is designed to:

  • support modern models of care
  • deliver safe, high-quality services closer to home
  • ease pressure on other WA hospitals
  • attract and retain skilled staff
  • embed cultural safety and sustainability from the outset.

Environmental approvals are in place, with 5.48 hectares of land to be rehabilitated as a Conservation Reserve and offset planting to support biodiversity. All vegetation removal has followed strict environmental protocols, including fauna inspections.

Honouring Aboriginal culture

The redevelopment is an opportunity to embed cultural safety from the beginning, honouring the enduring connection of the Bindjareb-Bibbulmun people to the land, community and culture of the Peel region. Aboriginal stakeholders have been actively involved in planning and design.
